Itinerary

Salkantay Amazing 10 Days


Day 1: Lima - Cusco - City Tour

Airport pick-up and airport-hotel transfer

13:45 Hrs. Aprox. We will visit the Cusco city, visiting the Main Square, the Cathedral and the tempo of the Sun or Koricancha. We will drive out of the city to visit the Inca sites of Qenko, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay and impressive archaeological complex of Sacsayhuaman strategically built on a hill overlooking Cusco, famous for its enormous carved stones joined with astounding precision to form the outer walls, some of them standing over 9 feet tall and weigh over 350 tons. 18:30 Hrs. return to the city of Cusco.

Day 2: Sacred Valley - Cusco (B)

8:15 AM. Pick up. We will start the guided tour through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to the following places:

Pisaq, typical Andean village, traditional and archaeological where there were the famous fairs, visiting fairs, typical markets and archaeological remains.

Ollantaytambo Archaeological Group, agricultural complex administrative, social, religious and military time Tahuantinsuyo, comprising temples, platforms and connected by a complete system of irrigation canals.

Chinchero archaeological site. Return to Cusco (Arriving time: 6:30 PM)

Day 3: Salkantay (L)(D)

Pick up from your hotel in Cusco at 5:00a.m. Our car will take us to the Mollepata village (2900 m.a.s.l.) where we will arrive at 7:30 a.m., we will stop for last minute supplies, leg-stretching or to use the restrooms at a local restaurant. We will continue our journey to Sayapata, our trek starting point. Around 9:00 a.m., we will begin our hike toward Soraypampa (3850 m.a.s.l.). During the hike we will have panoramic views of the majestic Salkantay, other mountains covered with snow, and the Valley of Apurimac River. Around 1:00p.m., we will have a Peruvian lunch. After lunch, we will visit Humantay Lake, a marvelous lake in the mountains, (3 hours hike) and we will come back to our campsite where the tents will be ready for you as well as your dinner.


Day 4: Salkantay (B)(L)(D)

After breakfast, we will start the most difficult part of the trek. In Soraypampa we are going to see in front of us the Umantay snow capped mountain. Here We have to climb up for four hours to the first pass of SALKANTAY mountain. Which is over 4.540 m.a.s.l. here on the top of this Salkantay mountain (highest point). We stop for around 25 minutes to take group pictures, because from here, we will have great views of range of the mountains and we will find some heaps of stones (Apachayta) around this pass. After this, We are going dawn for 4 hours through a nice trail to Chaullay, which is over lower than first campsite 2.900 m.a.s.l where we have our tea time and dinner.


Day 5: Salkantay (B)(L)(D)

At 8:00 o'clock AM, we will walk until Colcapampa, go in to the forest brow, where the plantation of coca, coffee and fruits will be able to be appreciated, also we will give ourselves time for see an beautiful Waterfall and if we are lucky we will be able to observe the famous cockerel of the rocks, we make a stop for the banks of the river to eat lunch and to take free time to relax and to rest. After that, a local bus will take us to Santa Teresa, where you will enjoy and relax at the Cocalmayo hot springs. You will have dinner and camping there.


Day 6: Salkantay (B)(L)(D)

After breakfast, you will take a local transportantion to Lucmabamba village. Here you will start the ascent hike toward Llactapata (3 three hours hiking). Llactapata is a beautiful observatory where you will have a wonderful view of the Citadel of Machupicchu with a lot of clarity. A descending trail will take you to the Hydroelectric where you will eat lunch at a local restaurant. After this spectacular experience we keep going for 2 more hours to Aguas Calientes town ( Your will arrive around 7:00 pm).

Overnight: Hotel in Aguas Calientes town (private bathroom, hot water, storage).


Day 7: Aguas Calientes- Machu picchu- Cusco (B)

Breakfast will be served from 5:00 am. Then you will take the bus to visit the Machu Picchu Sanctuary.

The exciting exploration begins with a visit to the world famous Machupicchu Sacred Temples (Sun Temple, Condor Temple) agricultural terraces, sacred rocks, water fountains, the famous Intihuatana and other important Inca buildings. During the tour, our guide will explain the meanings , importance and story of Machupicchu while we walk around the Machu picchu city for around 2 hours. After your tour you'll have free time to explore the site by yourself.

Later in the afternoon you will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes where you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo and then carry on by car to Cusco, where we will arrive late at night.

Day 8: Bus Cusco Puno (B)

At about 7:00 am we’ll pick up you from your hotel and transfer you to the bus station, then, we’ll take the bus to go to Puno City, This service includes Turistic visits to the principal archaeological areas in the route: Andahuaylillas, Racchi, Pukara, Racchi and. buffet lunch, we’ll be arriving Puno at 16:30 aprox. Reception and transfer to your hotel in Puno.

Day 9: Lake Titicaca - Uros - Taquile Island (B)

Pick up from your hotel at 06:45 a.m. and transfer to the port

We will take our motor-boat ride on Lake Titicaca to visit the uros floating islands. For hundreds of years the livelihood of this tribe is based on the benefits of a unique plant: the totora reed (scyrpus totora). They use it to build their homes, boats and even the floating islands they live on, periodically adding new layers of reeds. They also use it in their highly developed weaving.

You will have time to share with the people the Uros, and then we will continue on to the Island of Taquile.

On Taquile island the people maintain their old customs, dressing in traditional clothing and doing things the old way. You will witness the millenary techniques of hand- weaving beautiful textiles. There is also a craft fair on the main square that sells exceptional wool goods which are of very fine quality and somewhat expensive; also you will enjoy a typical lunch in Taquile (natural products), after that you must to descend a stairway of more than 500 steps - streaks of stone that wind their way among greenery platforms, we will reach the port and come back to Puno by motor boat.

You will arrive to Puno at 5:15 pm aprox.

Day 10: Departure from Puno (Juliaca airport) (B)
