Peru Royal Adventure 22 Days

Day 1: Flight Lima - Cajamarca - Otuzco Windows Tours

Pick up from the hotel in Lima and Flight Lima to Cajamarca. Reception at Cajamarca airport and transfer the chosen hotel. 15:30 Hrs. Pick up from the hotels and start the tour. We will visit the Ventanillas de Otuzco (Otuzco windows), a burial site on volcanic rock; hanging bridge, hacienda 3 molinos, Garden of the hortensias, Fundo Los Alpes (dairy products). 19:00. Return the the hotel. Overnight.

Day 2: City Tour Cajamarca - Chachapoyas (B)

8:00 AM Pick up from the hotels and start the tour. We will visit the Main square of Cajamarca, the San Francisco's Temple, The Cathedral of Cajamarca, Belen antique hospital of the colonial period, Archeological museum ethnic, The Ransom chamber (Room that Inca Atahualpa filled with gold and silver to pay his ransom), the Santa Apolonia hilltop, the natural watchtower , where you will see the city, the valley, and the Inca Trone (From Tuesday to Sunday).

Transfer from Cajamarca to Chachapoyas or Tingo by a 4x4 vehicle. Short break in Celendin. Dinner along the way. Accomodation in a Hotel in Chachapoyas or Tingo.

Day 3: Kuelap Tour - Chachapoyas - Chiclayo (B)

7:00 AM: We will pick you up from your hotel ( Chachapoyas town ) and transfer to San Pablo de Cocachimba Community (2 hours by car). From San Pablo de Cocachimba we will start our trek toward Gocta waterfall (It will take us 2:30 hours - one way), we will be helped by horses and a local tour guide. On the route we will be able to see a lot of birds such us the Cock of the rock , the famous Spatuletail Colibri, etc. Also we will see some orchids, bromeliads and many other flowers and exotic plants are just on the side of the way. The Catarata Gocta was perhaps the most impressive waterfall in all of Peru. Along the trail there are a total of 22 further waterfalls that get bigger and more impressive during the rainy season. After that we will return to San Pablo community. Here we will have time to share experiences with the locals, we will be able to participate in agricultural activities (sugar cane and pineapple harvest), elaboration of Chancaca, Panela and Cane milling. At 6:00 pm we will return to Chachapoyas city, arriving at 8:00 pm.

Transfer from Chachapoyas to Chiclayo. Accommodation on arrival.

Day 4: Chiclayo - Sipan’s Royal Tombs Museum - Flight to Lima (B)

You will visit the spectacular Museum Royal Tombs of Sipan, a wonderful sanctuary built in a shape of a pyramid. Explore its interiors with our local expert and meet the Moche kings, who were found in great funeral chambers full of golden treasures and slaves that were sacrificed to accompany these rulers in the afterlife. Here you will meet the mighty Lord of Sipan, a Moche warrior, considered by his people semi god, a great ruler found by archaeologist inside of a big pyramid full of gold, a unique discovery found untouched for over 1500 years.

Transfer to the airport. Flight Chiclayo Lima. Transfer in. Accommodation in a Hotel in Lima.

Day 5: Lima - City Tour (B)

Guided Tour of the city of Lima, touring the main tourist spots such as the Cathedral of Lima, Convent of San Francisco, Plaza de Armas of Lima. Continuing on to the modern sectors of Miraflores and San Isidro. In the afternoon you will have the freedom to go to the Jockey Plaza Shopping Center, which has more than 230 commercial outlets offering a variety of products and services.

Day 6: Bus Lima - Nazca (B)

At 07:00 we will take the bus ( Bus station Av. Javier Prado), and travel to Nazca city. We will arrive Nazca at 14:00 am. Approx. Assistance upon arrival and transfer to the Hotel. Free time in the afternoon

Day 7: Nazca Lines overflight - Bus to Arequipa (B)

8:00 AM: Transfer to Nazca Airport for your over-flight to admire the mysterious and much debated Nazca drawings. The enormous drawings of animals, people and birds etched in the desert plains are visible only from the air. Transfer to the hotel.

3.30 p.m. Travel Nazca – Arequipa, journey lasts 8 hours, arriving in Arequipa at around 11.30 p.m. Pickup from the bus terminal and transfer to hotel.

Day 8: Arequipa - City Tour (B)

Pick up from the hotels and start the tour. First we will visit the Mirador de Yanahuara where your will be able to appreciate the city , the the Santa Catalina monastery, the largest convent of the city, the constructions dates in 1580. with an area of 20 426 m2 , it is made of sillar (volcanic stone) the streets inside are Sevilla, Burgos, Toledo; continue the tour visiting the la Plaza de Armas (main square),the Cathedral, Churches and y Claustros of La Compañía de Jesús (Cúpula San Ignacio de Loyola). Return to the hotel.

Day 9: Arequipa - Colca Canyon (B)

8:00am pick up from your hotel in Arequipa (2325 m.s.l.). We will take the highway to Yura, first passing through Pampa de Arrieros and Pampa Canahuas where we will see vicuñas, llamas, alpacas, and migratory birds along the way. We will continue to Viscachani where you will enjoy some Coca tea to help with the altitude. From here we will continue the trip viewing tokras, ponds, wetlands, and perhaps some flamingos and ibis. Finally, we’ll arrive at Patapampa Pass (4900 m.s.l.), the highest point on our journey, and known as the volcano viewpoint. From here we’ll see a chain of volcanoes that include Hualcahualca, Sabancalla, and Ampato, the famous volcano where the Inca mummy Juanita (viewable in Arequipa) was sacrificed over 500 years ago. From Patapampa Pass we will descend to the town of Chivay (3646 m.s.l.), the capital of the Colca Canyon region, where you will have lunch and spend the night. In the afternoon you have the option to visit the Calera Hot Springs for about 2 hours. The thermal bath’s medicinal waters reach temperatures of around 40ºC (104ºF) and are wonderful for helping sooth physical ailments. In the evening you will have dinner in Chivay with entertainment provided by a traditional folk group.

Day 10: Colca Canyon - Puno (B)

6:00 AM Breakfast. After breakfast we’ll set off for Cruz del Condor (about a 2 hour drive) considered the best viewpoint to truly appreciate the vast expanse of Colca Canyon and also the prime location for condor viewing. Afterwards, on our journey back to Chivay we’ll see archeological sites, pre-Inca farming terraces, and stop at other Colca Canyon lookout points. We’ll pass through the towns of Pinchollo, Maca, and Achoma, and then stop in Yanque to see some typical churches, artisan markets, and view the typical dress of the region. We will have lunch back in Chivay before travelling to Puno city. We’ll arrive to Puno at around 7:30pm.

Day 11: Puno - Sillustani (B)

2:30 PM: Pick up from the respective hotels to take the bus and go toward the Archaeological Complex of Sillustani; arrive to Sillustani, the great necropolis of the nation of Kolla, takes the North road of Puno in the road to Juliaca, until the town of Paucarcolla. Continuing for the road after 20 Km. there is a turn to the left side of the road, where lands of times Inca pre are observed where the technique of the Waru Waru was applied, this constructions were made by the culture of Pukara, after twenty minutes, we arrive to Sillustani, in front of the enigmatic lagoon of Umayo. The Chullpas are stone turrets considered as funeral monuments of the Kollas and Incas, built with more than 12m. of height, worked in stone, keeping the secrets of the cultures who populated in the highland for but of 3000 years. We’ll visit for almost two hours, and then we’ll take the bus and return to Puno, when averaging six in the afternoon.

Day 12: Puno - Lake Titicaca - Uros - Amantani (B)

Pick up from your hotel at 07:45 a.m.and transfer to the port

We will take our motor-boat ride on Lake Titicaca to visit the uros floating islands. For hundreds of years the livelihood of this tribe is based on the benefits of a unique plant: the totora reed (scyrpus totora). They use it to build their homes, boats and even the floating islands they live on, periodically adding new layers of reeds. They also use it in their highly developed weaving.

You will have time to share with the people the Uros, and then we will continue on to the Amantani Island - Lake Titicaca.

On Amantani island, we will visit the sacred Temple of the Pachatata or Pachamama and enjoy the folkloric show to the rhythm of the music characteristic of Amantani Peru prepared by the native families who are willing to share its homes for a pleasant night and taste its typical dishes made of food of the island.

Day 13: Amantani - Taquile - Puno (B)

Visit to the Taquile island to enjoy the nature, customs and textile art of the Taquileños.

On Taquile island the people maintain their old customs, dressing in traditional clothing and doing things the old way. You will witness the millenary techniques of hand- weaving beautiful textiles. There is also a craft fair on the main square that sells exceptional wool goods which are of very fine quality and somewhat expensive; also you will enjoy a typical lunch in Taquile (natural products), after that you must to descend a stairway of more than 500 steps - streaks of stone that wind their way among greenery platforms, we will reach the port and come back to Puno by motor boat.

You will arrive to Puno at 3:45 pm aprox.

Day 14: Puno - Cusco (B)

At about 7:00 am we’ll pick up you from your hotel and transfer you to the bus station, then, we’ll take the bus to go to Cusco City, This service includes Touristic visits to the principal archaeological areas in the route: Pukara, Racchi and Andahuaylillas. buffet lunch, we’ll be arriving Cusco at 16:30 aprox. Reception and transfer to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 15: Cusco - City Tour (B)

13:45 Hrs. Aprox. We will visit the Cusco city, visiting the Main Square, the Cathedral and the tempo of the Sun or Koricancha. We will drive out of the city to visit the Inca sites of Qenko, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay and impressive archaeological complex of Sacsayhuaman strategically built on a hill overlooking Cusco, famous for its enormous carved stones joined with astounding precision to form the outer walls, some of them standing over 9 feet tall and weigh over 350 tons. 18:30 Hrs. return to the city of Cusco.

Day 16: Cusco - Sacred Valley - Machupicchu (B)

8:30 am aprox. We’ll visit market at Pisaq and its Incan terraces. Also this tour includes Ollantaytambo. This is a large site of ruins characterized by fine masonry, which includes terraces, canals, granaries, fortress walls, and the Temple of the Sun. After that you will have free time until 7:00 pm. Then, you wil take the train to arrive to Aguas Calientes town. Pick Up and transfer to the hotel.

Day 17: Wonderful Machupicchu - Cusco (B)

Early wake Up (by 05: 30 a.m.), Breakfast. We will take the early Tourist bus Up to Machu Picchu Sanctuary.

The exciting exploration begins with a visit to the world famous Machupicchu Sacred Temples (Sun Temple, Condor Temple) agricultural terraces, sacred rocks, water fountains, the famous Intihuatana and other important Inca buildings. During the tour, our guide will explain the meanings , importance and story of Machupicchu while we walk around the Machu picchu city for around 2 hours. After your tour you'll have free time to explore the site by yourself.

Later in the afternoon you will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes where you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo and then carry on by car to Cusco, where we will arrive late at night.

Day 18: Cusco andes – Pilcopata Village Lodge (B) (L) (D)

Leaving Cusco early, we will pass through the pre-Inca tombs of Ninamarca, the colonial town of Paucartambo known as the region’s folklore center. The next stop is Acjanacu (3,530m/11,870ft) which is the entrance to the Manu Biosphere, where we will see the amazon Basin. After that, we’ll descend through different ecological levels such as the puna, the elfin forest, down into the lush Cloud Forest, along the way we may see endemic flora and fauna such as, butterflies, giant tree ferns and orchids, monkeys, birds like toucans, tanagers, etc. The Cloud Forest is home of Peru’s National bird which is “the Cock of the Rock” (Rupicola peruviana) and the spectacled bear (tremarctus ornatus) -the only bear found in South America. We spend the night at a comfortable Lodge. (L, D)

Day 19: Pilcopata Village – Native community – Pilcopata Lodge (B) (L) (D)

After a hearty breakfast we will start our hike to the native community of Huacaria (Huachipaire ethnic group), on the way we may see birds like quetzals, cotingas, tanagers, toucans, woodpeckers, as well as some farms, here we will have opportunity to observe their culture and typical way of living, we will hike their trails and swim in their rivers. Late in the afternoon, we will return to Pilcopata to spend the night in a cozy lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 20: Pilcopata town – Rainforest Atalaya port - Lodge (B) (L) (D)

45 Min. ride to Atalaya (500m rainforest) where we will board our motorized canoe that will take us to our lodge (40min. down stream) situated on the banks of the mighty Alto Madre de Dios River. Here we will spend the day exploring the surrounding area and the very interesting trails that will show us an amazing ecosystem. In a little oxbow lake and a mysterious swamp we have the opportunity to see the prehistoric Hoatzin, some Caimans, Capibaras, Squirrel monkeys, and different species of birds. After dinner, we will hear sounds of the Amazonian night like the Night Monkey(Aotus trivirgatus), the Kalinowski Rat, frogs, Great Potoos and the Pigmy Owl among many others inhabitants of the night during a night walk. Day 21: Lodge – Parrots Clay Lick - Cusco (B)

Very early we will spend 15 minutes traveling down the river by boat to observe the parrots clay lick, where different species of Parrots and parakeets will give a colorful show and an impressive uproar. We will then board our motorized boat to start the journey back towards Atalaya where our vehicle is waiting for the ride back to Cusco, arriving late in the afternoon.
